CEIR presents at WI 2024

, ,

Last week (16.09-19.09.2024), our research team attended the Konferenz Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI 2024), the most important German Conference on Information Systems. Petra Schubert, Martin Just and Lucas Schlömer participated in the conference, which was hosted in the modern facilities of the University of Würzburg. Martin Just presented a paper entitled “Using Materialised Ontology-Based Data Access (MOBDA) for the Harmonisation of Trace Data from Enterprise Collaboration Systems”, which had been accepted for inclusion in the proceedings (acceptance rate: 21% in this track).

In the paper presentation, Martin focused on the building blocks and applicability of MOBDA. He demonstrated how MOBDA can be used to harmonise trace data from collaboration systems. The MOBDA approach builds on existing ontologies and frameworks and aims to improve data integration and consistency across different platforms used in enterprise environments. By materialising selected parts of the ontology, the data retrieval process can be significantly enhanced, making it easier for business analysts to retrieve and analyse the data. The method is particularly useful for large datasets where traditional query methods may be too slow. To illustrate its application, Martin presented three replication studies which were used to successfully evaluate the method. We are happy that, with our work on materialised ontology-based data access, we have provided a new method that can be used by academics as well as practitioners for longitudinal collaboration analytics.

The academic part was complemented by a very well organised social programme. On Tuesday, we had dinner in the setting of an idyllic boat trip on the river Main. On Wednesday, Petra Schubert participated in the inspiring Women’s Lunch and in the evening, the organisers invited us to a memorable conference dinner in the charming cellar of the Würzburg Residence with a great atmosphere and delicious food. Overall, the WI 2024 conference presented a vibrant platform for the sharing of research ideas and ample opportunity to connect with other academics in our field. Our special thanks goes to the organisation team of the University of Würzburg who turned this year’s WI into an unforgettable experience.

Thank you so much!
